In time...

In time the shock will fade, but the memory of the bestiality and brutality will remain. No Palestinian and no Israeli should forget that horror – in particular the images of innocent children and babies being dragged into dark tunnels, the images of innocent children and babies being dragged out of crumbling hospital wards. But no Palestinian and no Israeli should use these memories to perpetuate the cycle of violence.

And beyond the Palestinian and Israeli, every Arab and every Jew should stand back from the mindless, tribal atavism. Stand back from adding to the infectious rhetoric. Every Arab and every Jew, whose soul is being torn apart, should be urging their cousins away from picking through the past atrocities, with blame and rationalisation, away from bludgeoning history with cause-and-effect. Instead they should urge their cousins to shift the focus forward, to use that Semitic genius to evolve ways not merely of coexisting, but of creating mutual positive support.

In time.

But perhaps not just yet. It is all still too raw, and too many people are still grieving, still hurting, still in pain.
